home (my other home)

Chandra, thanks for your prayers, but we actually weren't home yet... Sweet little Andrea, four years old and in kindergarden, stole our passports Monday night. We went to the airport, assuming that we had them, but quickly realized they weren't where we left them, and went back to the house. Miriam, one of the staff members, found them in our closet, but the little purse and a few American dollars inside(perfect for a little girl) were nowhere to be found. The girls in our room invistigated for us all afternoon and it was determined through several witnesses that Andrea was guilty of the crime. She later confessed. Her sentence: staying home from the Christmas party. At the time it was pretty stressful, but really, it's only fitting that sometime unexpected would end our time here at Lily. Mary Ellen and I arrived safely home last night. Thanks to God, we were able to get on a flight the next day and with no extra charge. Our friends and family were waiting for us at the airport and I was happy to see them. I don't have one single word that describes how I'm feeling now. I'm here in Louisville physically, but every bit of my mind is in Chihuahua. At any point in the day, I'll look at the time, and think about what the kids are doing, what the staff are doing. Right now it's 3:30 and they're probably eating lunch. In a little bit they'll take showers and play with the tons of new gifts they've been given. It's good to be home, I know it will be good to be home. But it will take some getting used to.

I want to put up lots of pictures and video for you- look for that sometime soon. Until then.

-Lauren

I am seriously cracking up at Andrea right now. I can't believe that little stinker stole your passports. She must have really wanted you to stay!! I am sure you are full of hilarious stories about her and I can't wait to see all the pics and video. My heart is aching for you though...I know getting back to your life at home is going to be up and down emotionally. My mom and dad also want you and Mary Ellen to know they are praying for you too. I will check back often...thank you so much for sharing!

Glad you made it home safely. I know what you mean by "every bit of my mind is in Chihuahua." Looking forward to lots of pics and videos.
